Talk to Us
We’d love to hear from you, please talk to us by leaving your comments below.
GC and I created our Challenge site at the beginning of June 2018 following the demise of the WordPress Daily Prompts. Initially, our idea was to provide a midweek word prompt and a weekend photo challenge; however, a year or so later, we changed tack and combined our two challenges to create twice-weekly combined word and/or photo challenges.
Our first-ever comment was kindly left by Maureen Helen (How to be Eighty)
“Just as I was plucking up the courage to join the daily prompt fun, it disappeared. Then this morning, this blog. Congratulations to both of you, and every success on your new venture. I look forward to being part of it.” – Maureen Helen.

I’d say anything goes Marilyn, and it’s a word-prompt so you don’t need to have a picture. Go for it 🙂

I wanted to use the word comparison in my post as a prompt but I don’t have any pictures like you asked for. Sorry and thank you..

Hi Sue. It’s me again, afraid I might have been caught up in the spam because I did a mash up of prompts this morning. Thank you for the wonderful prompt and good to see you again..

I wish I could help with your problem, Tatiana. Have you tried the help line?
Yesterday my pingback from my site Nan’s Farm to Weekly Prompts failed. I deleted the link and began again. My second link was identical to the first and it worked fine! I cannot understand that either.
Feel free to link to Talk to Us. And thank you.

Your pingback was successful and is showing up on the prompt page. No need to double up here on the comments page. Thank you again for joining us. 🙂

Got it. Thank you! Still learning the ping back thing. And I love all the challenges but different folks have different sets of instructions. I kept getting a message that said my comment could not be posted. I hope I didn’t post it like 10 times or something.

Ah yes, that’s because our challenge pages allow pingbacks but not comments. We set it that way in order to achieve a streamlined look and so that everyone can spot each other’s pingbacks without first ploughing through various feedback. That’s why we included a Talk to Us page.
Most people who set challenges have done so using their personal blogs. Gerry and I set up Weekly Prompts as a challenge site only, very much as WordPress did when they used to set the challenges. We keep our personal blogs separate, and we also take part in the challenges. Thank you for leaving your comments. 🙂

Hello Kelli, thank you for visiting our Weekly Prompts site and for the invitation to visit you.
I had to smile when I reached the bit about your kids sleeping forever. Funny how teenagers do that!
You should do a pingback from one of your diary entries and then others can have a look too. Check out some of the others too.
Thanks again, stay well and safe. 🙂

Where IS the new “classic editor”? I’ve got the older one. I’m afraid to try anything else because each time, you’ve locked me into the new block editor and I had to spend hours online hunting down someone who could help me go back to something I want to use. I didn’t know there was another “classic editor” and I have NO idea where it is, how to find it, or how it differs from what I already have. Any assistance vastly and hugely appreciated.

Hi Misky,
I did think it odd that there was only one pingback besides mine from Nan’s Farm, very unusual.
I’ve just checked the Spam and there’s nothing there either. It seems as though your pingback is working as a hyperlink but not as a pingback. That sometimes happens but we’ve no idea why!
I’m sorry about that. Thank you so much for attempting our challenge. Would you like to try again with the link below? Many thanks 🙂

That’s the same URL that I used, but as you said, it’s within a link. I’ll update with just the URL this afternoon. Thanks for checking.

It’s happened before to me too. Then I pasted the same link again and it worked. Seems to be no rhyme or reason! Thank you, Misky 🙂

I’m right in thinking all I need to do is add your page URL somewhere in the text of my post, and that creates a pingback to you, right? I’ve done that but it hasn’t shown up yet.

Sorry for the late reply, all devices were off.
Highlight a word and click the link icon, then paste in the URL I gave you, even though it’s the same as before and click Save and that should do it.🙂

Hello again Pat,
I have e-mailed you a new support page about resizing images within WordPress. I hope you find it helpful. 🙂

Thank you for your great resources on this site. I am going to work my way through them.
This may be a daft question – if I edit my blog at a later date, do people who have previously liked or commented get to see that I have edited it?
Thanks, Pat

They will see the changes only if they go back and look at your edited page.
Thank you for the kind comments about the How to Pages.
I think writing instructions became an extension of my teaching job when I retired and I enjoy doing them. I’m updating the one about resizing images, at least I was before lunch, I’ll continue with it and let you know when I’ve finished.
I’m pleased my old friend Peter pointed you in our direction. 🙂

I use Blogger, and never have pingbacks show up. Is there a trick to it on Blogger that you may know? I always link like your how-to shows, but never have pingbacks showed up on any site I try to get them to.

Pingbacks are WordPress-exclusive and are created when a WordPress blogger links to another WordPress blog post.
So no, as a Blogspot user you would not be able link to a WordPress post.
You could, however, paste a link to your article in the comments section of a bloggers post. Many bloggers who set challenges allow both comments and pingbacks. Unfortunately, not here. We created this site as a challenge site as opposed to a personal blog, in much the same way as WordPress did when they issued Daily Prompts, but as you’ve discovered we do engage in conversation on the Talk-to-Us and How-to pages.

Thank you for letting me know. I’ve tried looking it up, and most of the links went to WordPress related context, but nothing came right out and said that it’s only for WordPress. That clears it up for me!

I’m glad I’ve cleared it up for you but I’m sorry that it hasn’t helped. I find it hard to understand why Non WordPress bloggers are not allowed to click LIKE, that doesn’t make sense to me.

Emille, I’m so sorry that we have made our challenges confusing.
Each week we publish a combined weekend challenge and a combined Wednesday challenge (words, pictures or both); but on the first weekend of each month we have a colour challenge. All the challenges are flexible without deadlines.
Thank you for taking the time to ask. 🙂

Good Evening Sue
I have been trying over an hour to post a ping back on word press. I read over your how to guide, just not getting it. I enjoy reading the weekly poetry prompts and the works posted on the site. Since I just joined Word Press last Friday my knowledge of the site is a work in process. If you want to read my work go to bluestainedglass.wordpress.com Thank you

Oh, Bren! I’m sorry to hear that. What have WordPress said about it?
Just a thought and perhaps you’ve already tried it – instead of using the App or your usual browser, try a different browser to access your site online.
I have problems commenting when I use Firefox, or Safari, but I have no problems with Google.
WordPress were unable to fix the issue, but did acknowledge the problem is with our browsers.

They don’t have a clue what the problem is… I don’t think it is a browser problem as my other blog sends pings ok and receives them ok.
