“When you push a car off a cliff and blow it up, be sure to roll the windows down to avoid shrapnel. Also strip the license plate so you’re not billed for the clean-up.” – Hunter S. Thompson.
This week’s Wednesday Challenge on partner Susan and my site is License Plates.
Pingbacks are Working Again!
In the good old days, a license plate on a vehicle signified the fact that the owner of the vehicle had paid the required fees and possessed the necessary driving skill needed to operate a motor vehicle safely and responsibly on local roads and highways.
The numbers on the plate afforded police officers the ability to ascertain whether the driver of the vehicle was fit to drive the car. The vehicle’s “lost or stolen” status could also be determined. An individualized and at the time unique number was assigned to each vehicle.
Over time personalized names were allowed to be used on the plate. Some names used were more suggestive than others, but the uniqueness of the system also allowed the ready identification of the vehicle’s owner.
This week we invite you to give us your opinion on the many names, phrases and characters used on plates that identify many vehicles today.
Do you have a personalized plate? Have you considered getting one for yourself?
Do the names and images on such plates reflect the personality of the owner?
Our challenge is as flexible as you’d like it to be, so please use it in a way that suits you – Words, Pictures, Poetry or Rhyme.
