“Hiking is not escapism; it’s realism. The people who choose to spend time outdoors are not running away from anything; we are returning to where we belong” – Jennifer Pharr Davis
This week’s Weekend Challenge on partner Susan and my site is the word WALKING.
Apologies from Susan for not visiting your sites this week unfortunately, she is unwell. We expect ‘normal services’ to be resumed next week.
GOOD NEWS! Pingbacks are working again.
Walking
German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche once penned the idea that all truly great thoughts are conceived while walking. A book titled “The Philosophy of Walking” illustrates many examples of the reasons why people decide to walk in nature.
Some folks decide to get away from the confines of their comfortable abodes and venture outside not only for the chance to breathe in the fresh air and enjoy the warmth of the sun but also to help clear their minds of the many accumulated cobwebs that have over the winter months started to cloud their thinking.
Walking with friends or a group of people with a like-minded interest is commendable but rules ought to be set so that cell phones and other sources of distraction (like yelping canines) are left at home so that the many benefits of being outdoors can fully be appreciated.
People I have chatted with on many walking trails emphasize that walking is meant to be a calming and restorative activity. There is a certain Zen-like peace that makes the walk a healthy refuge for folks who enjoy the sounds of nature and not the buzzing of radios and cell phones on the trails.
So, what’s your idea of walking to invigorate your body and soul? Is it merely a physical activity, or is it something else for you? Show us or tell us, your choice.
Our challenge is as flexible as you’d like it to be, so please use it in a way that suits you – Words, Pictures, Poetry or Rhyme.
