“The fear for tomorrow is the reason many never prepared for tomorrow. You don’t have to worry about tomorrow, just put all your strength into preparing for it.”- Plumcious.
This week’s challenge on partner Susan and my site is Fear.
Fear – Do you ever worry about What If?
Do you spend the majority of your days and nights fretting over things that may go wrong and never appreciate the many positive things that are happening in your daily life?
The following real-life example illustrates the absurdity of focusing on the fear and not the reality and logic of a situation.
Years ago when I was in the workforce one of my co-workers Bob W. seemed to be tense, uptight and worried about some ponderous issue in his life. I suggested we talk it over during our lunch break.
During the break he told me that he had accumulated a great amount of debt and was worried about what would happen if he died and who would pay off his creditors.
I suggested he close his eyes for a moment, take a few deep breaths, relax and momentarily put these worries out of his mind. I told him that after he dies his creditors will not be able to come after him because he would no longer be on the planet for them to pursue.
He opened his eyes and now, calmer and relieved, said “You’re right. I was stupid to get caught up in that way of thinking.” He appeared to be a lot calmer after our brief chat.
But sometimes we all get caught up in focusing on the negative and the “what ifs” of life and not devote more energy to the positive side of the equation.
This week Susan and I invite you to tell us of your own over the top concerns about the many negatives of “what ifs” in life.
As always, our challenge is flexible so please interpret in a way that suits you – Words, Pictures, Poetry or Rhyme.
