This week the Wednesday Challenge from partner Susan and myself is COLORING BOOKS.

The past weekend I wandered into a local art supply store ( Michaels) and as I was browsing through the many creative ways to express yourself in this store I noticed people milling about one display dedicated to adult coloring books.

As I neared the area I heard fellow shoppers encouraging their friends to give this creatively therapeutic medium a go. I was inspired by their enthusiasm and purchased for myself a coloring book dedicated to “Birds and Butterflies”. Under the main title was the line “color your way to calm.”

I also purchased a Faber-Castell package of 36 coloring pencils that can be dipped into water and used to enhance a person’s take on an image.

Colored pencils are one of the most popular media to use for adult coloring books. The biggest benefit to colored pencils is the fact that you can shade with them. Within a single spot of color, you can make one side darker and the other side lighter or add fine details with the use of colored pencils.

Color Me | Free Adult Coloring Book for Adults App has 100s of high-quality coloring pages and books for you to color, paint, and draw on. Color and recolor them any way you like. Once you’re done, share them with others! – Color Therapy and Stress Relief in your pocket.

This type of activity is no longer targeted at children. Adults are also encouraged to start coloring and reap the calming benefits the medium offers.

This week Susan and I encourage you to offer your own opinion on this matter. Do you feel encouraged to try your hand at coloring? Have you tried coloring in the past and was not really impressed with it?

Have you wanted to try this medium and would do so if there were other folks in your area forming groups to encourage you on with this new venture?  Have you investigated this notion?

As always, our challenge is flexible, please interpret the challenge to suit you – using Words, Pictures, Poetry or Rhyme.
