Weekly Prompts Wednesday Challenge – Cuddly Toys

This week’s Wednesday Challenge from partner Susan and myself is CUDDLY TOYS.

The COVID virus has not only held us prisoners in our own homes for the past year but also alienated us from our neighbors. If you live in an apartment complex, your neighbors come and go on a regular basis. A fact of life.

John and his wife Dorothy moved into the apartment above mine when the pandemic started. We said hello in the hall and that was the extent of our interaction. We were strangers living in the same building.

This past Easter I wanted to stop my imposed state of isolation and buy Dorothy and her family a gift. I chose a Laura Secord two cup and chocolate drink display and brought it to their suite. They were out shopping. Their son was the only one at home. I wished him and his family a happy holiday.

The next day Dorothy knocked on my door and after a brief exchange of pleasantries gave me the Snoopy doll presented in this photo. It was well made and she told me this was her new COVID acquired hobby. 

I was impressed with the detail and the quality of her work. I asked her if she had commercialized her new hobby and she answered no. She enjoyed making the toys. She said she also makes a Winnie the Pooh and Scooby-Doo.

For this challenge, Susan and I ask you to take a photo or write about a plush toy that makes you nostalgic for your younger days. Teddy bears, elephants and the occasional giraffe are also welcome.
