“Junk is the ideal product… the ultimate merchandise. No sales talk necessary. The client will crawl through a sewer and beg to buy.” — William S. Burroughs
This week’s Wednesday Challenge on partner Susan and my site is the word RUINED MERCHANDISE.
Have you ever been disappointed with the quality of a high end consumer product that was touted as being “top of the line ” only to discover that the many minions who handled the item before you had royally screwed up and sold you something that was a returned piece of merchandise and unacceptable for sale?
This happened to me a few years ago when I purchased a highly advertised coffee machine from a reputable dealer only to discover when I unboxed the item it had been used. There was a used and rancid coffee filter wedged in the machine and a small amount of cold coffee residue was in the glass coffee container.
Needless to say I returned the item immediately to the store and was offered an apology from the manager. I had the receipt which made the task easier but what if this had been a special occasion gift carefully chosen by a close friend or family member?
The box itself at the time of purchase was wrapped in protective plastic and appeared to be brand new. The surprise came when I eventually opened the box at home.
This week Susan and myself encourage you to tell us your own experiences with this type of consumer situation. We recommend that you save your receipt and open the item as quickly as humanly possible to avoid any future disappointment.
Don’t forget – the challenge is flexible, feel free to do it your way. Words or Pictures.
