Following on from yesterday’s post regarding the new navigation implemented on our sites.
If your Admin sidebar has been switched and you wish to return to the usual Admin navigation sidebar, and also use the WP Admin Classic Editor then this is for you. Read On.

Scroll down the page until you reach Dashboard appearance and the words Show advanced dashboard pages.
When clicking Posts you will now see the usual WP-Admin list of your posts and not the Block editor list.

Weekly Prompts 
Thank you. That brought back the stats page. I had a separate link for the “posts” page, but couldn’t get a hook into either “comments” or “stats” because I couldn’t find the line of data I needed to change. The lack of a stats page that made sense was particularly irritating. My next — and maybe only — question is whether or not they will let us KEEP this format if we want to. They really seem to be trying very hard to derail it which I find (to put it mildly) foolish. Why? I should think they would WANT to keep their users. It’s completely illogical to dump paying users because you are determined that they should use a particular format when you have another they like better already available. That’s pretty strange.
They often seem to be of the opinion that we work for them and have lost the concept that as long as we are paying them, they work for us.

There always seem to be rumours flying around and no one ever knows where they originated, so who knows if we’ll get to keep it, I really do hope so. Thank you, Marilyn.

Just a note, apparently the option you’ve shared is only available to paying customers OR it’s only available on certain formats – like if one blogs on their phone or tablet versus a desktop computer. My own blog does not offer me any option for advanced dashboard changes. It goes from the interface language straight to the color scheme for the dashboard. No other options are given. I’m sorry too because your information got me quite excited that I could go back to the old classic editor ‘look’ and discard the block editor look.

Same for me Melanie, but I have all sorts of anomalies anyway as I use a MacBook. For instance, Word for Mac does not support a blogging template – very frustrating!

Oh, I’m so sorry about that Peter. I wonder if it would be worth contacting WordPress to ask how to access it.
It allows me to access my free site Facts and Fiction via the WP Admin navigator but I’m wondering if that’s because my primary site is Nan’s farm.

Peter, I contacted WordPress. And I received the following reply. I passed on Melanies details but I haven’t passed on yours. I didn’t want to rock the boat regarding the Classic that you are using.:)
{The option would be present for all user accounts who have switched to the new navigation system.
If their account has not yet been one that has been switched, then their navigation would still be the old one, where there is a WP Admin link present in the left sidebar of the admin area.
If you can provide me with their username, then I could also take a look and help them out.

Oh, Melanie, I am so sorry to hear that, how unfair.
I use both tablet and computers to blog so I think we can rule out the device used.
I can access one of my other sites (a free one) via the WP Admin navigator but maybe that’s because my primary account is Nan’s Farm, a premium site.
I wonder if it would be worth asking WordPress how to access the WP Admin navigator on your site?
Are you able to access it from the link I left yesterday on here?

Melanie, I use a laptop and desktop. Select one of the color schemed dashboards. Once doing that, your classic WP Admin should be back, along with editing for classic or block editor choices.

I’m sure glad I found you through Derrick’s blog. I was confronted with the latest horror this morning. At the moment, I seem to have sent it packing (although I’m not sure quite how) but if it comes back, I may come back here. At least I figured out that both of my blogs are on the same account! You have to start somewhere, I guess.

Thank you for this post! When I saw it earlier I thought it didn’t apply to me since I use the Block Editor. But this morning when I logged into my Dashboard, clicked on All Posts and no longer had the list view I prefer, I came back and tried what you suggested! Hooray! Success! I only hope they don’t eliminate this option anytime soon.

My “All Post” page has been changed a long time ago. It used to look like your print screen, but now each title is a link, the three dots at the end of the link are for edit, view, comment… trash. I have a premium account for the primary blog but also have two private blogs and they all are switched to Block at the same time when the primary blog was switched. I do have an option to use classic as one of the blocks.

Miriam, it sounds like you are referring to the desktop App as shown below in my screenshots. We were referring to the online navigation sidebar, the dashboard.
When you click the WP Admin link it takes you to the online sidebar and this is the one that has been switched.
The update instructions ‘How to revert to the usual sidebar’ are now available on the Weekly Prompts How-To files. The instructions also explain how to gain access to Admin Classic Editor, and although this classic editor looks similar to the Blocks Classic it has more flexibility. But if you’re happy with the way you’re working, you won’t need them.

Thank you for for the reblog of my post and I’m pleased you’ve got the sidebar back.
I found that some bloggers didn’t read my instructions properly and went straight to their General Settings instead of clicking my link to the account settings. So if you get feedback saying they’re unable to see the account page, this could be why! 🙂

I think it was unfair of WordPress to inflict the blocks on bloggers – One size does not fit all. They should have publicised the option of two editors from the start. 🙂
