“Nothing says loving like something from the oven.”

For this week’s challenge partner Susan and I chose the words WHITE THUMB.
As the colder autumn and winter winds begin to replace the more inviting summer breezes one thing holds true: this is the time of year when we not only open our hearts to the world but also our oven doors that have been unused during the hotter summer months and eagerly search for those secret recipes that many have inherited from mothers or grandmothers.
While many modern bakeries can offer a cornucopia of twists and turns on many traditional goodies nothing can beat the welcome home aroma of mom’s apple pie waiting patiently on the kitchen table for us to get home from the cold outdoors and dig into a slice of warm apple pie and vanilla ice cream.
This week we ask you to dig deep into those recipe books, index cards or even wrinkled recipe pages and offer us photos, stories and even not too doughy tales of those homemade treats that have made an indelible impression on your minds. – gc
