This week’s Wednesday Challenge on partner Susan and my site is STEAMED LENSES.
P E E K A B O O – I C A N ‘ T S E E Y O U
Let’s face some important facts of life: if you wear glasses you know that your lenses now fog up a lot more this year than they did last year thanks to the presence of the COVID 19 virus.
The top part of the mask fits on the bridge of your nose and your eyewear on top of that forming a barrier that not only prevents you from contracting the feared virus but also one that channels your hot, exhaled air upward and onto the surface of your lenses.
There have been a number of “weird” solutions offered to prevent this dilemma from happening: saliva on the lenses; a thin layer of shaving cream on each lens and then wiped off quickly with a micro cloth and of course good old vinegar wiped on each lens.
I recently discovered that one drop of peppermint oil spread across the top wire or cloth top of the mask itself will help to reduce if not eliminate this problem. You only use one drop of the oil and try to avoid contact with your eyes. Let the oil dry for about five minutes. Wash your hands after using this oil.
It is available at many health food stores, is relatively inexpensive and it does work.
Last winter the fogged up lenses made driving and walking about in malls extremely hazardous. I have been using the oil on my mask for the past week and can honestly say it has kept my own glass lenses free of my lungs exhaust.
This week Susan and I encourage you to write about your own experiences with your fogged-up eyewear. We would also like to know any and all solutions you have tried that seemed like a good idea at the time but sadly did not work.
