Wednesday Challenge – For the Birds

“The reason birds can fly and we can’t is simply because they have perfect faith, for to have faith is to have wings.” ― J.M. Barrie, The Little White Bird

This week’s challenge on Susan and my site is FOR THE BIRDS.

I have a bird feeding station dangling freely on my balcony roof and over the past while have noticed that the birds here are extremely fussy. I tried feeding them peanuts which they immediately spit out of the feeder.

I then switched to a brand of smaller bird seed tailored for small song birds, finches and sparrows. They seemed to enjoy this combo for one week and are now “selectively rejecting” the smaller seeds.

Many birds are more sociable than others while others ( like crows and magpies) like to dominate an area and eat alone. Social distancing is a life style for some but not all. Bird fights have started at the feeder probably regarding an unspoken pecking order.

This week our challenge involves your own powers of observing the birds who frequent your bird feeder or areas where you place bread for them to eat.

Photos of the birds munching at either seeds or bread are welcome. Candid shots of your birds displaying their own personality types are also welcome.

Personal anecdotes of the way you and our feathered friends interact are also welcomed.  Words or Pictures – no rules or deadlines.
