A firm, hearty handshake gives a good first impression, and you’ll never be forgiven if you don’t live up to it. Handshakes and hugs will always trump likes and shares. “Amazing Things Will Happen: A Real-World Guide on Achieving Success and Happiness”.

This week partner Susan and my Wednesday prompt is THE ELBOW BUMP. A somewhat over exaggerated recreation of the movement is presented in the above video.
It is interesting to note how certain social customs and forms of greeting can one day be deemed life threatening especially if other forms of social intercourse (handshakes, hugs, kisses) could contribute to the spreading of a life threatening disease such as the Coronavirus.
For a short period of time politicians, late night talk show hosts and scores of public personalities gestured comically as they overdid the gesture in the hopes that the public will accept the fact that this newly adopted way of social greeting will replace the old and familiar forms of social interaction.
Bloomberg recently reported that even this act of elbow bumping may be too intimate a social gesture since the bent elbow places both parties with a short distance between one another providing an ample opportunity for the contagious disease to infect a new host.
While hand washing and limiting exposure remain ideal ways to protect yourself and others from spreading illnesses like the flu or COVID-19, lawmakers and “Star Trek” fans alike have suggested that, instead of shaking hands, using the Vulcan greeting that Leonard Nimoy, who played Spock on the original series of the beloved franchise, famously devised.
Who would have thought that the Vulcan form of greeting on a classic television series such as Star Trek would one day become the latest and the safest way to socially interact.
We ask you this week to share your ideas and concerns on this topic. Be as creative as you wish. Words or Pictures the stage is yours.
