Following on from yesterday’s Bloggers Beware article, I have an update.
It proved impossible to contact anyone on the site itself without leaving both my WordPress e-mail address and WordPress password. I declined to do this.
The site in question is hosted by Go Daddy therefore WordPress has no jurisdiction and was unable to assist apart from offering advice.
This morning I contacted the Help chatline on Go Daddy. The online assistant answered immediately and was very helpful, he assured me that the site will be taken down if I make an official copyright complaint. On the operative’s advice, I sent my complaint to this address, copyrightcomplaints@godaddy.com – I am not expecting an immediate reply, but I am hopeful that the site will be taken down.
I also had a closer look at some of the other articles on the site. I found a name at the end of one article and I managed to trace the blogger. We are now in touch and she will also make a complaint. I will continue to check the other articles for names.
As I stated yesterday, the only reason I found out about the theft was because of the pingback between my Nan’s Farm site and here on Weekly Prompts, therefore perhaps there is a way to keep a check on our articles, though it wouldn’t help with the theft of individual photographs.
- Include a pingback to yourself on each post you write.
- Regularly check the comments on the dashboard just as you would with Spam.
- Include a copyright notice on your article, it may also help to trace you.
At a later date, if someone re-publishes a post that includes your pingback, it will show up on the dashboard in the comments.

I’m going to have to sit down and think about it when I have the time but I’m wondering if you could hide a pingback in your copyright notice and maybe even in the tags of individual photos.

Once after adding a pingback I changed the text colour of the whole article, this had the unexpected effect of blending in the pingback, you wouldn’t have known it was there! Thank you, David

I used to be able to write HTML. There’s a way of hiding a link so it appears as regular text but it’s at least 12 years since I did any serious HTML so I’m very rusty. Plus this week is going to be busy with family/personal things so after today I won’t have time for very much until the end of the week.

I did a little at university but I can’t remember much about it. One of my son-in-laws is a web developer but the last time I asked for help he said he didn’t know enough about WordPress. Thanks David

O my, I experienced that before. I wrote a post here and I found out it was copied verbatim and they just changed a few words in between. I blogged about this plagiarist, ti was a health company and reported it to WordPress. I also blocked the site.

Oh, Arlene, I’m sorry to hear that. I have a number of health based followers and it has occurred to me more than once that they may not be what they seem.
Blocking the site is a great idea. The culprits here don’t operate a WordPress site so there’s not much WordPress can do. Right now I’m battling on with my own investigations, but they are hiding their trail well. Thank you, Arlene 🙂
