“The need for vaccinations does not end in childhood. Vaccines are an important step in protecting adults against several serious and sometimes deadly diseases.”
The midweek Word/Photo Challenge on partner Susan and my site is BOOSTER VACCINES.
Since December 21st of 2019 I have been under the thumb of a “contagious” virus that forces its victim to experience an uncontrollable cough similar to the Whooping cough virus that plagues its victim with a 24/7 respiratory nightmare.
I caught the virus while sitting in the waiting room of a retinal consultant medical center geared to the needs of seniors. Seventy five patients were packed in close quarters like sardines.
A number of these folks were sneezing and coughing and not covering their noses or mouths when they coughed or sneezed.
There were no exhaust fans visible and there was no air purifying system to clean the air. We were all victims patiently sitting there and totally dependent on the good will of our fellow patients.
Christmas evening was spent in an Emergency Room (ER) examination room trying to figure out why the hell I was coughing at this unheard of rate. The victim is deprived of enjoying a good night’s sleep and a visit to one doctor’s office told me I was “contagious”.
I thought I was covered against this type of attack since I had Whooping cough when I was a child. I guess I was wrong. This was a case of free range pertussis and one doctor prescribed an Opioid-based cough medication which only made me all the worse for wear and tear.
I think that as adults over the age of fifty we should consider getting booster vaccines for all those potential health threats which we received when we were children in school.
Last year I had my Measles – Mumps – Rubella vaccine and this year I plan to have my Diphtheria- Tetanus-Pertussis inoculation as soon as I am over this virus.
How do you feel about getting added protection against these life threatening diseases? Susan and I would like to know where you stand on the issue pro or con?
