“I determine to render more and better service, each day, than I am being paid to render. Those that reach the top are the ones who are not content with doing only what is required of them.” ― Og Mandino

This week’s Word Prompt on my partner Susan and my site is EVALUATE.
Justice is blind and in most cases balanced, fair, sticks to the facts and renders an impartial but honest verdict of guilt or innocence. Can there ever be a “fair” evaluation of the service we receive from another person?
In this day and age customers are being asked to provide a numbered rating between zero and ten for the caliber and the quality of the service they received from a great many consumer oriented businesses and services.
Staffers brazenly and shamelessly pressure complete strangers to give them a high rating should they be asked to provide one. Their promotability and future with the company is allegedly at stake. Plumbers, electricians and even store personnel politely request that you give them high marks for their job performance.
I went to the bank one day to pay a bill and was served by an overly solicitous male bank teller who not only competently completed the transaction for me but also politely requested that I give him a ten rating should the bank contact me for a customer satisfaction report.
As I was leaving the teller wicket the next customer, an attractive female , was greeted by the same teller. She said good morning to him and he smiled and made immediate eye contact with her.
He gave her his self promotion spiel and when she asked for his name he proudly told her “I’m Randy. Pleased to meet you”. They both smiled because I assume she did not get the innuendo of the punch line. Young and fuelish I guess.
This week tell us how you feel about this skewed and unfair evaluation demand placed upon you by not-so-innocent aiming to improve their lot in their firm’s social hierarchy. Remember that some of these folks will one day be in managerial positions.
