“I could happily lean on a gate all the livelong day, chatting to passers-by about the wind and the rain. I do a lot of gate-leaning while I am supposed to be gardening.” – Tom Hodgkinson.

This week’s word prompt on Susan and my site involves IDLE CHATTER.
Whether we like to admit it or not we all like to spend a portion of our busy day engaged in idle chatter with friends, co workers, business associates and perhaps neighbors .
It can logically be assumed that “shooting the breeze” is an important part of our DNA and that this form of interaction is inherent in nature: birds do it; bees communicate with one another and even infants have their own language and code to communicate with one another.
In this week’s challenge we ask you to tell us if you spend a portion of your day chatting about nothing in particular but still reap the psychological reward of expressing your thoughts, feelings and plans with others.
Idle chatting offers us a way to let off steam, share moments with others and it is “good fun” to just “chew the fat”.
Of course you might see such chatter as a waste of time and not really an important part of your busy day. Tell us about that and why you feel the way you do.
