Word Prompt Haywire

The best laid schemes o’ Mice an’ Men, Gang aft agley. An’ lea’e us nought but grief an pain, For promis’d joy! ~ Robert Burns (To A Mouse 1786)

The midweek Word Prompt here on Weekly Prompts is Haywire

Haywire – out-of-control, out-of-order, erratic, faulty, not functioning properly. That’s about the size of it, and that’s been GC’s life during the past two to three weeks, therefore being a little unsure of how much spare time he would have this week, GC left his word prompt with me.

Leaving other happenings aside, the sad death of a family member led to Gerry staying out-of-town to assist with family business for longer than he expected and at a time when he really needed to be at home.

With a move to a new apartment imminent, and having just returned home, he now has only days to pack up all his worldly goods.

Moving house is said to be high on the list of stressful events; I wonder how many of us could manage to pack up our homes in such a short space of time without giving in to panic?

So, over to you, what can you tell us about a situation that went haywire for you, or maybe you had a situation that went the opposite way and turned out to be more successful than expected.

As usual, feel free to use any format to tell us your story.
